Two kidnappers captured by the police in Cross River
The arrest of two members of a four-man kidnap gang has been confirmed by the Cross River State Police Command. Irene Ugbo, the Police Public Relations Officer, verified the arrest and revealed that the gang was responsible for kidnapping the wife of a well-known vehicle dealer in Calabar. However, the kidnapped victim was released after a ransom was paid. Ugbo further stated that the suspects have already confessed to the police and will be charged once the investigation is concluded.
Additionally, locally-made pistols, ammunition, phones, and other valuable items were recovered from the arrested suspects. Ugbo cautioned the public against sharing their bank details with others, as such information could be exploited for fraudulent activities or other illegal transactions.
In a statement on Tuesday, Ugbo said, “The police were able to track the owner of the bank account where the ransom money was deposited, leading to the apprehension of the duo. The suspects were unaware that they were being followed. We are pleased that two out of the four have been captured.”
