On Thursday, two Higher National Diploma (HND)1 students at Federal Polytechnic, Offa in Kwara State, were killed by suspected student cultists.
One victim is a male student who has not yet been recognised, and the other is Miss Toyin Bamidele from the Faculty of Food Science and Technology.
Vanguard reported that credible sources claimed that Toyin Bamidele, the girlfriend of a rival group leader, was killed by stabbing after being tracked to her town of residence, while the male student, purportedly the leader of a cult, was killed by machete on the polytechnic grounds.
In a statement released by the polytechnic’s acting public relations officer, Mrs. Folake Akinloye, the institution’s management expressed sympathy to the families of Miss Toyin Bamidele, even as the Kwara police command dispatched officers into the ancient town to apprehend the perpetrators of the acts and bring them to justice.
It was learned that the two students’ bodies had been placed in the mortuary of the General Hospital in Offa so that an autopsy could be performed on them.
Additionally, it was discovered that on Thursday night, while the female student was doing laundry in her flat at Dampson Hostel, which is situated near the Atari section of the university’s mini campus, her attackers arrived and fatally mauled her.

Additional research indicated that there may be a connection between the two students’ deaths and the increasingly common “Sign Out” rituals in the country’s post-secondary educational institutions, which mark the conclusion of final exams but have been hijacked by rival cults and used as a point of conflict.
Some of us had to flee for our lives when we heard the sound of the invasion, the locals who talked to Vanguard on the condition of anonymity said.
“However, after the attack, which lasted for roughly fifteen minutes, we found the deceased’s lifeless body in her room and reported the incident to the relevant authorities.”
“We have commenced full investigations into the dastardly act in order to fish out the masterminds of the killing of the female student, Miss Toyin Bamidele,” stated a senior police officer at the Offa Divisional Police Office, who requested anonymity, in addition to confirming the occurrence.
Nonetheless, thorough inquiries into the occurrence have been launched by the institution’s management.
The management of Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State, has started an investigation into the event, according to a statement released by Mrs. Folake Akinloye, Head of Acting Public Relations at the Polytechnic.
