Two farmers, Samaila Zanko, 24, and Umar Abubakar, 36, were each given three months in prison by an Area Court in Jos on Friday for extortion and violence.
Following their admission of guilt to assault and attempted extortion, Zanko and Abubakar were sentenced by the judge, Mr. Shawomi Bokkos.
But Bokkos offered them each the chance to pay a N10,000 fine.
The matter was reported on September 11 at the Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Jos, by the complainant, Malam Saudi Abdullahi, the prosecution’s Monday Dabit told the court earlier.
The prosecutor claimed that after breaking into the complainant’s home, the prisoners beat him.
He informed the court that in addition, the inmates had threatened to attack the complainant if he did not give up N3 million as a “settlement fee.”
According to Dabit, the offence was against the Plateau Penal Code. (NAN)
