Thomas Tuchel expresses his ambition to secure the trophies that have eluded English football, as he sets his sights on revitalizing his team’s performance and achieving success in upcoming competitions.

Thomas Tuchel mentioned that the opportunity to become England’s manager arrived at an ideal moment, as he seeks to lead the Three Lions to their first major tournament victory since 1966.

On Wednesday, the ex-Chelsea manager was appointed as the permanent replacement for Gareth Southgate, who guided England to consecutive European Championship finals.

After leaving Bayern Munich at the conclusion of last season, Tuchel has been unemployed but will start his new position in January. He is contracted for 18 months, lasting until the end of the 2026 World Cup.

“The offer came at exactly the right time,” Tuchel said during his unveiling press conference at Wembley.

“Now I have to meet the expectations, of course. I’m aware that there are some trophies the federation is lacking, and naturally, I want to contribute towards achieving them.”

Tuchel guided Chelsea to a Champions League victory in 2021 and boasts an illustrious coaching career with major trophy wins at Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich.

Nevertheless, the selection of a third foreign manager for the England men’s national team has faced some criticism.

Tuchel playfully remarked that he was “sorry” for having a German passport, yet he aims to silence his critics by delivering strong results.

“Tuchel added, ‘I hope to persuade them and demonstrate that I’m proud to be the English manager.'”

“I am committed to honoring this role and our country, with the sole focus for the next 18 months being on achieving success at the World Cup—the pinnacle of football.”

Thanks to a generation of exceptionally talented players, England is expected to be one of the favorites for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

The Football Association’s chief executive, Mark Bullingham, mentioned that they interviewed 10 candidates—including some from England—but believed Tuchel offered the best chance at securing a coveted major title.

“Thomas was truly exceptional, offering a remarkably clear vision for the role and outlining his plan to collaborate with our players to maximize their potential and enhance our chances in the World Cup,” stated Bullingham.
