It was forbidden for the former US president to make “personal attacks” against court personnel.
Donald Trump was subjected to a gag order by Judge Arthur Engoron after he allegedly disparaged one of his law clerks. Letitia James, the attorney general of New York, is theoretically included in the scope of the measure.
Engoron stated that Trump had “posted to a social media account a disparaging, untrue and personally identifying post about a member of my staff,” warning that “personal attacks on members of my court staff are unacceptable, not appropriate.”
The 45th president claimed that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat, had a “girlfriend” in Allison Greenfield in a since-deleted post on his Truth Social website.
“How embarrassing!” Added Trump. “This case needs to be dismissed right away!”
James filed a civil lawsuit in a New York City court against Trump, claiming that the Trump Organisation and his family had defrauded banks by misrepresenting the worth of their real estate holdings to get better loans. The former president and his counsel have stated that all the loans in question have been fully repaid and that no one has been harmed. They have referred to the prosecution as a politically driven “witch hunt” meant to prevent him from running for president in 2024.
In a ruling last month, Engoron determined that the value of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property in Florida was $18 million rather than the north of $1 billion that the Trump Organisation claimed.
Trump is now facing federal charges over top-secret government materials and his suspected role in the January 6 disturbance at the US Capitol, in addition to municipal accusations in New York over alleged hush money payments to a porn star. He is the first ex-president to be charged by the federal government. All of the cases, in his opinion, are politically motivated and meant to harm his 2024 presidential campaign.
The 45th president is still contesting the results of the 2020 election, which was won by Democrat Joe Biden with a historic record number of votes and the same distribution of the Electoral College as Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton in 2016.
