The former president has said that if he were still in office, the conflict with Hamas would not be occurring.

Donald Trump, a former US president, has suggested he could go to Israel soon. Following a severe criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for ostensibly failing to foresee Hamas’ attack on the Jewish state, Trump made his statement.

Trump told reporters outside a courthouse in New York where he is being sued for civil fraud, “I may, I may go.

Trump continued, “But I believe in letting them do what they have to do. They have to fix it. If I were president, what’s happening in Israel — with all those people dead — would never have occurred.

Trump supervised the transfer of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem during his time in office, as well as the Abraham Accords’ signing, which saw Israel normalise relations with Bahrain, Morocco, Sudan, and the United Arab Emirates. Trump frequently bragged about his close friendship with Netanyahu and self-described as “history’s most pro-Israel US president.”

Since then, that relationship has gotten worse. In an interview with Fox News last week, Trump asserted that Netanyahu “was not prepared” for the unexpected strike by Hamas. Trump stated that “he was not prepared, and Israel was not prepared,” adding that the Israeli PM “has been hurt very badly because of what’s happened.”

Several days later, Trump claimed that Israel has to “straighten out” its intelligence services and that Netanyahu “let us down” by rejecting to take part in the 2020 bombing that killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani at a campaign rally in Florida.

A day after President Joe Biden’s return from Israel, Trump made remarks about a prospective trip there. In a meeting with Netanyahu in Tel Aviv, Biden pledged further military assistance for Israel and urged the leader to avoid being “consumed with rage” in the wake of the Hamas attack.

According to the most recent statistics from the Palestinian Health Ministry, Israeli jets have been attacking Gaza for nearly two weeks, killing or injuring more than 12,000 Palestinians while killing close to 3,800. According to the Israeli military, at least 1,300 Israelis have died throughout that time.
