According to the Associated Press (AP) news agency, despite its efforts, The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been unable to determine why a 20-year-old man shot at US presidential candidate Donald Trump during a campaign rally last Saturday.
AP wrote that despite conducting an extensive three-day search following the assassination attempt, which involved cracking into Thomas Matthew Crooks’ mobile phone, scouring his computer and home as well as interviewing over a hundred people, the FBI has been unable to uncover any tangible motive for the crime at this time.
A law enforcement official who was briefed on the ongoing investigation spoke to the agency anonymously and stated that despite examining the shooter’s phone, no meaningful clues about his motive had been discovered immediately.
According to his high-school peers, Crooks was an intelligent yet peculiar individual who endured nearly daily bullying due to his attire consisting of hunting gear and ongoing use of a mask even after the conclusion of the Covid-19 outbreak. He apparently refrained from conversing with fellow students.
As per AP, no suicide note, writings or social media posts have been found that clarify the motives behind his attack on Trump.
According to a federal intelligence briefing cited by AP, it was reported that Crooks had been part of a nearby shooting club for no less than one year and had gone to the rifle range to practice on the day prior to the shooting.
While situated on the roof of a nearby building, Crooks utilized a semi-automatic AR-15 rifle to attack Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Pennsylvania over the weekend. Unfortunately, one attendee lost their life and two others sustained serious injuries. Mr. Trump narrowly evaded harm as a bullet grazed his ear during the assault. Thankfully, officials were able to neutralize Crooks by taking him down with an expertly placed shot from Secret Service counter sniper before he could accomplish any further damage or take more lives into his own hands.
