Donald Trump has outlined his hopes for improving relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, emphasizing the importance of diplomacy and mutual respect between the two nations. His comments come as international tensions continue to influence U.S.-Russia relations.
Donald Trump has stated that even if Washington disagrees with their policies, it is “a good thing” for US presidents to have a positive relationship with foreign leaders. He referred to his own history of working with Vladimir Putin and claimed that the Russian leader had shown respect towards him.
During a livestreamed interview with Elon Musk, the former owner of Twitter now known as X on Monday, Trump criticized certain foreign leaders and blamed the current US administration for being weak in handling those diplomatic affairs.

Musk proposed that the White House should intimidate “evil dictators” and strong individuals in order to ensure global safety, prompting a response from Trump.

The Republican repeated his assertion that the Ukraine dispute would not have occurred during his time in office, assigning responsibility for instigating hostilities to current President Joe Biden.
During his time in office, Trump asserted that he conveyed unrevealed cautions to Putin pertaining to Ukraine. He stated, “I explicitly communicated: ‘Refrain from doing it; It is not feasible for you. Vladimir, if you initiate it, consequences will be unfavourable and undesirable.’ I further elucidated the steps I would take thereafter. Initially denying any chance of action on my part, but ultimately comprehending its inevitability.”
He recounted how Russia had gathered its troops in areas near Ukraine, leading up to the crisis of late 2021 and early 2022. This happened after NATO refused Moscow’s request to ease tensions. Trump was no longer serving as president during this time period, but he recognized that Putin may have viewed the military buildup as a means of negotiating a deal with Ukraine.

Despite the “Russiagate” accusation against his administration, which he attributed to his then-Democratic competitor Hillary Clinton and a set of untrustworthy individuals, Trump stated that he had formed a connection with Putin.
According to Trump, Putin has good negotiation skills. He believed that was the reason behind his actions, but then Biden made some unintelligent remarks.
Trump specifically mentioned that Biden promised to include Ukraine in NATO despite Russia’s opposition. Moscow has been expressing its dissatisfaction with the United States’ promise to Kiev ever since it was initially made during President George W. Bush’s tenure in 2008.
