Donald Trump picks JD Vance as his running mate for the 2024 election. Learn about their partnership and campaign strategies.
Senator JD Vance, the Ohio Republican chosen as Donald Trump’s running mate in November, has gained recognition in Capitol Hill for criticizing Washington’s indefinite commitment to supporting Kiev.
Vance, the author of the best-selling book ‘Hillbilly Elegy’, was elected to the Senate in 2022. Trump revealed his selection for vice president on Monday night, during the initial day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
“I greatly respect the Ukrainians who are resisting against Russia, but I believe that it is not in America’s best interest to continue funding an essentially never-ending conflict in Ukraine,” he stated in May, during a speech at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft.
In late April, when the Senate passed a $61 billion military aid package for Ukraine, Vance drew on his military background to criticize his colleagues.
“I served my country with honor, and I realized when I was in Iraq that I had been deceived,” he declared on the Senate floor, emphasizing that “the assurances of the foreign policy establishment of this country were completely false.”
Trump emphasized Vance’s impactful work “Hillbilly Elegy,” which achieved critical acclaim as both a best-selling book and a major film. The memoir resonated widely for its depiction of the struggles faced by working-class Americans, solidifying Vance’s reputation as a voice for marginalized communities.
“JD’s book, ‘Hillbilly Elegy,’ became a Major Best Seller and Movie, as it championed the hardworking men and women of our Country,” Trump pointed out.
In addition to his literary accomplishments, Vance has had a successful career in technology and finance, bringing a wealth of private sector experience to his new position.
Trump expressed confidence in Vance’s capacity to advocate for the interests of American workers and farmers, particularly in crucial states essential to electoral victory.
