Trump Safe After Second Assassination Attempt, Suspect in Custody
Former President Donald Trump is safe following a second assassination attempt. Authorities confirm the suspect is now in custody.
Donald Trump, the ex-President of the United States, confirmed that he is “safe and sound” following what authorities believe was a second assassination endeavor aimed at the Republican nominee.
The FBI has launched an investigation into the incident at former President Trump’s golf resort in Florida, which is believed to be a failed assassination attempt. The Secret Service reported that they fired upon a gunman on Sunday.
In a statement published on his fundraising website, Trump reassured others by saying “There is no reason for alarm! I am unharmed and secure. We have been blessed!”
However, there exist individuals in this globe who will employ any means to halt our progress. I shall persist in combating for your sake, and without ever backing down or surrendering.
The statement expressed gratitude towards the support and stated that by working together, America will be made great again.
During a break from his presidential campaign, Trump had gone golfing at his West Palm Beach course which is situated near his Mar-a-Lago residence. Our focus brings you the latest developments on US politics, Canada’s multiculturalism and South America’s geopolitical ascent – all in one place.
During a press briefing with the FBI, Secret Service and community officials, it was reported that an agent from the Secret Service had spotted an individual carrying a firearm near the resort’s boundary while playing golf one hole ahead of Trump. The agent immediately discharged their weapon towards them.
Officials added that it was unclear if the suspect retaliated by firing at the agent.
The Sheriff of Palm Beach County, Ric Bradshaw informed that the perpetrator was at a distance of 400 to 500 yards (365 to 457 meters) from Trump and exhibited intentions to record himself.
Officials report that the culprit was spotted fleeing in a black vehicle from the wooded region, but law enforcement authorities were able to promptly track and apprehend them.
Officials stated that they retrieved a backpack, a GoPro camera, a scope for firearms and what was described as an “AK-47-style rifle” from the location.
Bradshaw told reporters that he anticipates a larger crowd surrounding the perimeter the next time he visits a golf course.
The Secret Service executed their duties impeccably by providing the level of protection required, and all credit is due to their agents for performing an exceptional job.
Unnamed law enforcement officials were cited by both Fox News and The New York Times when identifying the suspect as Ryan Wesley Routh, aged 58.
According to the White House, both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who is also the Democratic presidential nominee, have been briefed on the investigation and will receive ongoing updates.
The White House expressed that Biden and Harris felt a sense of “relief” upon learning about Trump’s safety.
“In a post on X, Harris stated that America is not a place for violence.”
JD Vance, Trump’s vice presidential candidate, voiced his gratitude that no harm had come to Trump.
“On X, Vance expressed his relief that [former] President Trump was safe.”
Before the news became public, I had a conversation with him and to my surprise, he was in good cheer. Though there is still uncertainty surrounding this situation, tonight I’ll hold my children tightly and offer up thanks through prayer.
Sean Hannity, the presenter of Fox News, revealed that he had conversed with Steve Witkoff while on the golf course alongside Trump. Witkoff is a real estate investor in New York City.
Hannity stated that when the ex-president was informed of everyone’s safety and well-being, he responded in a manner consistent with his confrontational attitude. Trump conveyed to Steve who then told Hannity: “I really wished I could have completed that hole. My score was even, and I had an opportunity for birdie.”
Only two months prior, Trump narrowly avoided a fatal bullet when an assassination attempt was made on him in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13.
During the rally, Trump suffered an injury to his ear and unfortunately one attendee lost their life in the assault.
The Secret Service sniper eliminated Thomas Crooks, the perpetrator who was 20 years of age.
The assault prompted inquiries about the safety measures for Trump and Harris in anticipation of the November 5th election, which is still months away.
Due to the assassination attempt and pressure from both political parties in Congress, Kimberly Cheatle was compelled to step down as director of the Secret Service.
In August, the newly appointed acting director of the agency, Ronald L Rowe Jr., expressed his “shame” regarding the security breach that resulted in the attack.
Elise Stefanik, a Congresswoman from the Republican party who serves as the representative for New York’s 21st District in the House of Representatives, expressed concerns about President Trump’s security following the incident.
Stefanik posed a question in her statement, “How was it possible for an assassin to once again approach [former] President Trump so closely?”
“We still don’t have satisfactory explanations for the dreadful assassination attempt in Pennsylvania, and we anticipate a precise account of today’s events in Florida.”
