The former US president has criticised the charges against him as “political persecution and electoral meddling.”

When a Manhattan grand jury decided to prosecute him, former US President Donald Trump accused his political rivals of using the judicial system as a weapon to defeat “by far the top Republican candidate” in the upcoming election.

“Joe Biden’s Witch-Hunt, in my opinion, will backfire severely. The American people are well aware of what the Radical Left Democrats are up to, Trump claimed in a post on Truth Social on Thursday. He asked his followers to stick together in order to “throw every single one of these Crooked Democrats out of government.”

The grand jury decided on Thursday to accuse Trump in a case that revolves on an alleged $130,000 hush payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels through his then-attorney Michael Cohen. Trump has constantly denied having an affair and being aware of the payment, and he has threatened dire repercussions if he is ever caught.

Trump did not specify his next course of action, but his attorney Joe Tacopina has pledged to “vigorously oppose this political prosecution in court.”

Meanwhile, a representative of the Manhattan district attorney’s office told AP that prosecutors had contacted Trump’s legal counsel to “arrange a surrender,” which is anticipated to take place sometime next week.
