Since being arrested at an Atlanta jail on Thursday, the Republican candidate has earned $7.1 million.
According to Politico, Donald Trump’s recent mugshot, which has already established itself as legendary among his followers, has also assisted his campaign in raising a record-breaking amount of money. The leading Republican candidate brought himself in at the Fulton County jail in Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday. He is accused of a number of offences.
The outlet stated on Saturday that the former president had raised about $7.1 million after having the picture taken by law enforcement.
According to an unnamed source cited by Politico, Trump’s team brought up $4.18 million on Friday alone, marking its greatest 24-hour haul to date.
The former president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., said that he has started a line of items displaying the photograph and the motto “NEVER SURRENDER!” shortly after the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office released the mugshot.
He announced that all sales of T-shirts, mugs, and posters would benefit the Legal Defence Fund in a post on X (previously Twitter), adding that this was done “to fight the tyranny & insanity we’re seeing before us.”
The Republican front-runner sent his own tweet on X on Thursday night, his first since 2021, and directed followers to his website. The mugshot is displayed on the landing page, which also encourages people to “make a contribution to evict Crooked Joe Biden from the White House and SAVE AMERICA during this dark chapter in our nation’s history.”
He was later released on a $200,000 bond after being arrested on several counts related to his alleged attempts to tamper with the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
Trump is the first US president, living or dead, to have his picture taken in a police mugshot.
The former president and 18 of his colleagues were charged in a 41-count indictment that was unveiled earlier this month by Fulton district attorney Fani Willis.
Trump is charged with breaking Georgia’s organised crime statutes, conspiring to sway an election, lying under oath, encouraging a public person to break the law, and other offences.
Since the beginning of the year, the 45th US president has been the subject of four criminal indictments.
Federal prosecutors have already charged him with numerous felonies on the grounds that he planned to tamper with the 2020 election, handled sensitive information improperly after leaving the White House in 2021, and paid Stormy Daniels hush money during Trump 2016 campaign.
Trump has categorically refuted all allegations of misconduct and called the investigation a politically motivated witch hunt intended to derail his bid for the presidency in 2024.
