Ron DeSantis’ Twitter Spaces announcement had no sound for some users, while others were unable to access it at all.
After the Florida governor’s live Twitter Spaces campaign launch for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 was plagued by several technical difficulties on Wednesday, Donald Trump made fun of Ron DeSantis.
“Wow! It’s a disaster that DeSanctus launched on Twitter! His whole effort will be a complete failure. The former president, using the abbreviation “DeSanctimonious” to refer to his fellow GOP candidate, posted on the Truth Social site, “WATCH!”
Trump applauded Senator Tim Scott’s candidacy, which was declared on Monday, in a different tweet. The former US president could not pass up the chance to contrast Scott’s campaign debut with DeSantis’, which he called a “catastrophe.”
On Wednesday afternoon, the DeSantis campaign filed a document to the US Federal Election Commission declaring his candidacy, and hours later, he made the announcement on Twitter Spaces with CEO Elon Musk. The virtual event, however, was plagued by technical difficulties, which prevented some people from accessing the live feed or hearing the speakers.
According to a Yahoo/YouGov poll from February, the Florida governor was polling several points ahead of Trump in the fight for the Republican nomination, despite the former president’s recent surge.
According to a CNN survey released on Wednesday, Trump currently has the backing of 53% of Republican voters, compared to 26% for DeSantis, despite being indicted on felony allegations of falsifying company records in New York City in early April.
The rest of the GOP candidates are well behind the front-running duo.
DeSantis has been under fire from Trump several times, who has referred to him as “disloyal” and a “RINO (Republican in name only) globalist.” The election of DeSantis as governor of Florida in 2018 has also been attributed to the previous president.
DeSantis has declined to debate Trump, stating that he does not “spend my time trying to smear other Republicans.” The governor of Florida asserted that Joe Biden, the incumbent Democrat, was the target of all of his efforts.
