Despite pleas from inside his own Republican Party to retire after his supporters underperformed in this year’s midterm elections, former US president Donald Trump is anticipated to formally announce his second run for the White House on Tuesday.
The 76-year-old billionaire, whose victory in 2016 surprised both the United States and the rest of the globe, has invited the media to his Florida house for a “very important announcement” at 9 o’clock on Tuesday (0200 GMT Wednesday).
One of President Trump’s advisers, Jason Miller, predicted that he will declare his candidacy for president on Tuesday.
Although he anticipated a sizable contingent of fans to be present and waving banners, he stated the address would be “very professional, very buttoned up.”
Trump, who is notorious for being unpredictable, might yet decide to alter his mind at the last minute, but for months he has hardly concealed his ambition to run for president once more in 2024.
It would also be quite difficult for him to postpone the announcement now, as several of his aides apparently recommended to him, given Trump’s statement that it would “perhaps be the most significant speech made in the history of the USA.”
The “Red Wave” collapses.
Trump and the Republicans stormed into power in 2016, seizing the White House and keeping control of both chambers of Congress.
However, Democrats retook the House of Representatives in a landslide in 2018 after running a campaign primarily critical of Trump’s combative demeanor.
By obtaining control of the Senate and the White House in 2020, they achieved their trifecta of US political power.
President Joe Biden recently announced his intention to run for a second term, but he stated he would make a final decision in 2019. Trump has refused to recognize Biden’s win.
Trump made the decision to stay in politics, continuing to collect money and organize rallies around the nation after his supporters stormed the US Capitol and fled Washington in pandemonium.
In the run-up to the 2022 midterm elections, which Biden’s Democrats were predicted to lose handily, Trump made the denial of the results of the 2020 election a crucial requirement for receiving his hefty political endorsement.
