U.S. President Donald Trump expresses admiration for the Russian people and extends a potential deal to President Vladimir Putin amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump delivered a barely concealed ultimatum to Russia, calling on it to resolve the Ukraine conflict and negotiate a “deal,” or risk facing new sanctions and increased import tariffs.

In a post on his Truth Social online platform, Trump warned of potential consequences while expressing “love” for the Russian people and emphasizing that he had no intention to harm Russia.

“We must always remember that Russia played a crucial role in our victory during the Second World War, sacrificing nearly 60 million lives,” he wrote, significantly overstating the estimated losses of the Soviet Union.

“Despite everything, I’m going to do Russia and President Putin a significant favor since their economy is struggling. Settle now and end this absurd war! It will only get worse,” Trump stated.

If a “deal” on the issue doesn’t come together “soon,” Trump would be left with no other option but to impose heavy Taxes, Tariffs, and Sanctions on all Russian goods sold to the United States and several other involved countries. The US president also emphasized that if he had been in office, the Russia-Ukraine conflict “never would have started.”

“We can choose between the easy way and the hard way, but remember, the easy option is always preferable,” Trump cautioned Moscow.

Earlier in the day, Trump reaffirmed his willingness to engage in discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, emphasizing that he had previously established a “very strong understanding” with the Russian leader. When questioned about when such talks might occur, Trump stated he would meet “anytime they want.”

“We are in discussions with [Ukraine’s Vladimir] Zelensky and will be speaking with President Putin shortly. We’ll see how things unfold,” Trump stated.

On Monday, Putin praised Trump’s announced intention to reestablish communication between Russia and the US, a connection that had been suspended during Biden’s presidency. Nevertheless, he cautioned that any potential dialogue could only occur on an “equal and mutually respectful basis” during a meeting of the Russian National Security Council.
