Trump Declares End to Debates After First Harris Face-Off
Following his initial debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, former President Donald Trump announces there will be no further debates, citing dissatisfaction with the process and format.
The recent presidential debate featuring former President of the United States, Donald Trump, and Vice President Kamala Harris garnered massive attention as it was viewed by over 67 million people, making it one of the most watched events during this election season.
However, Trump squashed any possibility for a repeat performance on Thursday by declaring via the Truth Social platform: “A THIRD DEBATE IS OFF THE TABLE!”
After the Democratic incumbent’s shaky performance on June 27, when Trump went up against President Joe Biden, concerns rose over his age of 81. It took less than a month for Biden to concede defeat and be swiftly replaced by Harris.
Despite the shifting circumstances of their contest, Harris and Trump honored their agreement to participate in a follow-up debate scheduled for September 10th. The event was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
However, following the debate, most pundits attributed Harris with an advantage and contrasted her refined presentation to Trump’s incoherent performance.
“At the time,” stated Jen O’Malley Dillon, head of the Harris campaign, “the American people were able to witness their decision at the ballot box this fall under vibrant illumination: either progress with Kamala Harris or regression with Trump.”
After the debate, Harris’s team promptly urged Trump to engage in another debate and extend their success. Nevertheless, on Thursday’s Truth Social post, Trump refused this prospect while endeavoring to shift the conversation aftereffects towards his benefit.
He wrote that when a prizefighter is defeated in a fight, their initial response is to demand for another chance saying “I DEMAND A REMATCH”.
Following the debate, Trump expressed a comparable opinion. When questioned by journalists, he contended that Harris only faced difficulty because she had “lost.”

However, political analysts from both sides have generally concurred that Harris outperformed Trump in the debate.
Harris and Trump came face to face for the first time, with the Democrat effortlessly provoking her tense opponent while eliciting numerous moments of contained chuckling and piercing critiques. These instances were primed for easy distribution across various media platforms.
Even though both candidates avoided answering direct questions related to crucial policy matters, the fact remains that it occurred.
According to polls, it seems that Harris emerged as the winner of the debate among US voters. On Thursday, a survey conducted by Reuters news agency and Ipsos market research firm revealed that 53% of participants who had some familiarity with the debate believed Harris was victorious while only 24% thought Trump won.
According to a CNN flash survey published following the debate, most viewers believed Harris performed better than Trump. Additionally, a YouGov poll indicated that 54 percent of respondents thought Harris won while only 31 percent felt Trump was victorious.
It is still uncertain how important the discussion will be in influencing the November 5 election and whether it will sway undecided voters in pivotal swing states. Current polls indicate that both candidates are evenly matched.
According to the Reuters/Ipsos poll, most registered voters who were surveyed expressed contentment with just one Harris-Trump debate.
One debate was considered sufficient by 54 percent, whereas a second debate was desired by 46 percent.
