Trump Claims Thousands of Terrorists Have Entered the US Amid Security Concerns
Former President Donald Trump has raised alarms, stating that thousands of terrorists have infiltrated the United States. His remarks come amid ongoing debates over national security and immigration policies.
According to President Donald Trump, thousands of individuals he describes as terrorists and murderers have settled in the US. He has promised to overturn many policies enacted by his predecessor, Joe Biden.
Trump’s remarks followed his signing of several executive orders that initiated an immediate crackdown on immigration. These orders involve strengthening the country’s southern border and ending automatic birthright citizenship.
The president additionally labeled drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations and reclassified Yemen’s Houthi rebels, supported by Iran, as a terrorist group.
“Terrorists number in the thousands and murderers by the tens of thousands are present within our country,” Trump asserted on Wednesday during his first interview upon returning to the White House as the 47th president. “We’re going to address this issue.”
Trump told Fox News that around 11,000 individuals who have committed murders currently reside in the US, and of those, 48% have killed more than one person.
He alleged that “other countries” were “emptying jails” into the US, asserting that crime rates in Venezuela had decreased by 78%.
“The president mentioned that street gangs have been relocated to the US, with their presence noticeable in Colorado, Los Angeles, and other areas.”
According to a survey by the Pew Research Center in Washington, conducted last year, Mexico emerged as the largest source of immigrants to the US with approximately 150,000 people legally crossing the border in 2022. India followed closely with 145,000 immigrants and China with 90,000. Additionally, Venezuela, Cuba, Brazil and Canada each contributed between 50,000 and 60,000 immigrant arrivals.
According to the latest survey by Pew Research Center, approximately four million Mexicans reside illegally in the United States. However, it also revealed that the proportion of illegal Mexican immigrants has fallen to its lowest level since the 1990s.
The think tank observed a swift rise in the number of illegal immigrants in the US from countries other than Mexico, increasing from 5.8 million to 6.9 million between 2019 and 2022. Among these nations, El Salvador (750,000), India (725,000), Guatemala (675,000), and Honduras (525,000) had some of the largest unauthorized immigrant populations after Mexico.
