Security forces successfully prevent a devastating IED attack, apprehending a key terrorist courier in a critical operation aimed at safeguarding lives.

In a significant counter-terrorism achievement, troops from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Sector 3, in partnership with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), intercepted an individual suspected of transporting Improvised Explosive Device (IED) components near Gubio Local Government Area on Thursday, January 2, 2025.

Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Chief Military Information Officer at the MNJTF headquarters in N’Djamena, Chad, confirmed the arrest in a statement. The suspect has been identified as 28-year-old Murktar Alhaji Chari and confessed to transporting materials to Damasak in Mobbar Local Government Area for an intended attack on MNJTF personnel.

According to the statement, the seized items consisted of four empty 12kg cylinders, one empty 6kg cylinder, two carburettor gas canisters, two pressure regulators, and a hose.

Intelligence reports indicate that the materials were intended for a terrorist group planning a retaliatory attack following major setbacks, such as losing fighters and having a significant weapons cache seized.

“The prompt interception of the courier and retrieval of these materials have successfully thwarted a potential terrorist attack, significantly impairing the operational capabilities of the terrorist group. The suspect is currently in custody and cooperating with ongoing investigations,” stated the report.

Major General Ibrahim Ali, the Force Commander of the MNJTF, commended both the troops and CJTF for their alertness and professionalism. He reiterated the task force’s dedication to eliminating terrorism and safeguarding regional security.
