In the weekly report of the operations of the armed forces, Maj.-Gen. Edward Baba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, stated that on January 10, the air component of Operation Hadin Kai successfully eliminated three high-ranking commanders of the Islamic States of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Borno.
The commanders, namely Abou Maimuna, Abou Zahra, and Commander Saleh, along with their lieutenants, were targeted and destroyed by air strikes while traveling in a canoe.
Additionally, the troops carried out various operations throughout the week, resulting in the neutralization of 43 other terrorists, the apprehension of 76 individuals involved in terrorist activities, and the successful rescue of 27 kidnapped hostages.
In the South-South region, Buba reported that the soldiers of Operation Delta Safe apprehended 29 individuals involved in oil theft and prevented them from gaining an estimated sum of N131.1 million during the week.
Additionally, he mentioned that the soldiers discovered and demolished seven dugout pits, 13 boats, 23 storage tanks, two barges, four vehicles, 15 cooking ovens, two pump machines, and 16 illegal refining sites.
Furthermore, the troops successfully recovered 139,045 liters of stolen crude oil, 25,115 liters of illegally refined AGO, and 5,200 liters of DPK. Buba emphasized the military’s awareness of the threat posed by kidnapping gangs and terrorists throughout the country.
He assured that the armed forces will continuously evaluate their internal processes to effectively address these threats in the present and future. Buba concluded by stating the military’s determination to prioritize the situation and create a safer environment for all citizens.
