The Nigerian Army has arrested Alhaji Nafiu Yahaya, a former accountant of the Mutum Biyu Emirate Palace, Taraba State, in connection with the kidnapping and murder of seven members of the family of Chief Justice Sani Sulaiman.

The arrest follows allegations that Yahaya led a gang responsible for the tragic crime in February 2023.

In February last year, the Emirate’s wife and children were kidnapped from their private residence in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital. Sadly, the victims were killed a few days later, sparking public outrage and concern.

Yahaya’s arrest was precipitated by police intervention following the arrest in Abuja of a suspected kidnapper, convicted as the supplier of the AK-47 rifles used in the various kidnappings.

He also identified Gambo Jimeta, a resident of Mutum Biyu, as one of his main accomplices, alleging that Jimeta confronted the two kidnappers and provided firearms for their operation.

Yahaya’s shocking confession revealed the extent of his criminal activities, including possession of an AK-47 rifle. He said: “I have an AK-47 but Jimeta also has an AK-47 that he used to kidnap,” explaining the violent nature of the criminal network in the area.
