Troops Arrest Suspected Terrorists in Taraba, Seize Weapons

Troops in Taraba have apprehended suspected terrorists and recovered a cache of arms, marking a significant operation in the ongoing fight against terrorism in the region.

In distinct operations conducted throughout the state, seven suspected terrorists have been apprehended by troops of the 6 Brigade. Additionally, a cache of weapons has also been recovered.

Captain Olubodunde Oni, the Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, has included this information in a press statement.

On August 7, 2024, the soldiers from the Kambari-based 6 Brigade received reliable information about suspected bandits who were attacking a Fulani community in Katlong Village of Karim Lamido Local Government Area. The troops quickly responded by engaging with the bandits; causing them to escape frantically due to strong resistance and gunfire from military personnel present at the scene.

Yusuf Musa, an alleged bandit, was apprehended with 20 rounds of specialized ammunition and an AK-47 rifle. In addition to this seizure, the authorities recovered a total of 118 cows which were subsequently returned to their rightful owners.

Troops were given reliable intelligence on potential bandits heading to the Mashingi Village market in Karim Lamido Local Government Area to buy food products on August 6th, 2024.

Four suspected bandits named Yusuf Hassan, Mohammed Mamman, Haruna Iliya and Hammadu Shaibu were successfully arrested by troops who had strategically laid in wait. The suspects were found to be in possession of one motorcycle, four mobile phones and a sum of fifty-seven thousand Naira (#57,000).

On August 9th, 2024, troops were alerted by a reliable source about suspects planning to distribute large numbers of machetes suspected for criminal activities that could potentially cause unrest in the state. Acting quickly on the tip-off, they mobilised to Magami area within Jalingo Local Government Area where two individuals named Umar Zubairu and Issah Abdullahi were apprehended carrying 436 Machetes alongside other items including four filling machines, one mobile phone and multiple fabrication tools.

Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, the Commander of 6 Brigade praised the troops for their quick response and unwavering commitment towards safeguarding Taraba State’s residents’ security.

He restated that the Nigeria Army is dedicated to upholding peace and security nationwide, urging citizens to stay alert and notify authorities of any dubious conduct.

General Uwa stressed on the Nigeria Army’s ongoing collaboration with other security agencies and community leaders in purging Taraba State and its surrounding areas of criminal activities.

According to him, the detained individuals would be transferred to the appropriate authorities for additional examination and legal action.
