The Nigerian Army’s 1st Division has captured two men who are believed to be providing munitions to militants.
In Kaduna, the troops also found 16 motorcycles and firearms.
In a statement released in Kaduna on Wednesday, Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations 1 Division, verified the detention.
“Troops of 1 Division, Nigerian Army, following credible intelligence, arrested two terrorists’ collaborators and ammunition suppliers in the Awon general area of Kachia Local Government in Kaduna State in the early hours of October 24,” according to Yahaya.
He clarified that the perpetrators were apprehended in their various homes surrounding Awon based on information obtained from a collaborator who had been detained by the military earlier.
One AK-47 rifle manufactured locally, two dane guns, eight rounds of 9mm ammo, seven live cartridges, and five expended cartridge shells are among the items found seized from the suspects.
According to Yahaya, the objects were found where they had been hidden inside the perpetrators’ compound.
Yahaya further said that during a clearance operation in the Dogon Daji-Saulawa general region of Birnin Gwari Local Government region, terrorists and criminal elements were encountered by the military.
He clarified that the troops forced the criminals to flee in confusion by engaging them in a gunfight.
He said that among the things the soldiers found were a cell phone, sixteen motorcycles, two locally manufactured firearms, and a G3 rifle.
According to the statement, the troops have been tasked with maintaining the pace and removing all criminal elements from the division’s areas of responsibility by Maj.-Gen. Valentine Okoro, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 1 Division Nigerian Army and Force Commander of Operation Whirl Punch.
