The judiciary is in the best position to decide independently based on the merits of the case at hand, according to the presidency.
The Presidency claims that President Bola Tinubu is unconcerned about the court’s decision, which is expected to be announced on Wednesday before the Presidential Election Petition Court renders its decision.
The president’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, stated on Monday’s Politics Today broadcast on Channels Television that Tinubu is not scared since he knows he won the election.
Ngelale claims that the President does not believe it necessary to intimidate court officials because the judiciary is in the best position to render an impartial judgement based on the merits of the matter at hand.
“The President does not believe it is necessary to intimidate judicial officials. He believes in the sanctity and integrity of the Nigerian court system and does not see the need to raise questions about the integrity of judicial officers. He is certain that the outstanding men and women on the panel will base their choices only on the evidence at hand.
“He will continue to make sure that no matter what the verdict is, he does his part and ensures that our institutions continue to be respected, not just by him but by all actors,” Ngelale continued.
While the President is away at the G-20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, India, the Tribunal will issue its ruling.
The election of Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate at the time, on February 25, 2023, was challenged in several cases, according to the Court of Appeal’s Registrar, Umar Bangari, who made the announcement earlier on Monday.
The court also announced that interested television stations may stream live coverage of the proceedings.
Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) are all contesting Tinubu’s election.
In the fiercely contested election, Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, finished third, followed by Atiku, a former vice president.
