The election that selected PDP candidate Awoyeye Jeremiah for the Ife Central State Constituency has been declared invalid.
The National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, which met in Osogbo on Saturday, declared the election invalid.
The tribunal also ordered a rerun in 26 polling units of the Ife-central State constituency in its unanimous decision, which was read by Justice V. O. Eboreime, who presided over the three-person panel and was also joined by Justices Habibu Mika’ilu and Clara Kataps.
The tribunal concluded that Awoyeye Jeremiah’s victory was incorrectly declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.
In accordance with the ruling, “INEC did not conduct the election in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 as amended, Regulations and Guidelines for the Conduct of Elections, and the Manual for Election,” it was concluded.
After the March 18 election, Adejobi Johnson, the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for the Ife Central State Constituency, brought the Respondents before the electoral tribunal.
Adejobi further requested that the court invalidate the INEC’s declaration and return.
The PDP, INEC, and Awoyeye’s attorneys stated that they will appeal the decision.
