Transfer: Man United’s Reasons for Refusing Ronaldo’s Sale to Real Madrid Revealed
According to former Real Madrid President Ramon Calderon, Manchester United was reluctant to sell their superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid in 2009.
However, despite United’s resistance, Ronaldo went on to become one of the most iconic signings in the history of Los Blancos.
In 2009, Ronaldo made a then-world record €94 million move from Manchester United to Real Madrid.
This transfer marked a significant milestone in Ronaldo’s career, as he was already the reigning Ballon d’Or winner and considered one of the best players in the English Premier League.

Sir Alex Ferguson, the manager of Manchester United at the time, was not easily convinced to part ways with Ronaldo, who was their prized asset.
However, in a recent interview, Calderon revealed that it was more difficult to convince Manchester United than it was to persuade Ronaldo himself.
Calderon explained that United naturally didn’t want to let go of such a talented player.
However, thanks to Ronaldo’s desire to join Real Madrid and the commitment shown by both clubs in December 2008, the deal was eventually completed at the end of the season.
This transfer would go on to shape Ronaldo’s legacy at Real Madrid and solidify his status as one of the greatest footballers of all time.
