The club decided to trade Folarin Balogun this summer, and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has explained why.
This week, Balogun moved to Monaco for a cost of €40 million.
The American striker returns to Ligue 1, where he played on loan with Reims the previous season.
Balogun couldn’t fit in Arteta’s squad, the player said in a media interview on Friday.
“We did not have enough room on the squad to give him the playing time he required.
“He desired the opportunity to advance his professional life. I’m very thrilled for him.
The Premier League rivals of Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur were also interested in Balogun.
