At least 30 individuals tragically died on Saturday evening in a deadly accident along the Benin-Ore-Ijebu Ode Expressway, near Onipetesi in Ondo State’s Odigbo Local Government Area.

The Ondo Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reported that following a head-on collision between two commercial buses, the victims tragically perished in the ensuing fire.

“Thirty individuals perished in the accident. Twenty-eight were burned beyond recognition, while two initially survived but unfortunately passed away en route to the hospital,” he stated.

An eyewitness recounted the terrifying event, stating, “We were close by when we heard an incredibly loud noise. Upon arriving at the scene, we saw two vehicles that had collided and were already on fire, with some individuals inside desperately trying to escape.”

“Shortly after, FRSC officers arrived at the scene and transported the only two survivors to the hospital. Unfortunately, we later learned that they also passed away,” recounted the witness.

The FRSC has advised drivers to drive carefully, follow traffic rules, and steer clear of reckless driving to prevent more accidents on the highway.
