Tragic End: 13-Year-Old Brutalized by Soldier and Civilian JTF Takes Own Life in Kaduna
The family of Mr. and Mrs. Saul Hashimu, who reside in Ungwan Maigero Community in the Chikun Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State, are seeking justice for the death of their 13-year-old son, Wisdom. His tragic passing was a result of alleged brutality by a soldier and members of the civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) in the area.
Wisdom, who lived with his parents on Lafiya Sarki Street in the same LGA, was reported to have taken his own life within their compound after being falsely accused of stealing N10,000 from a neighbor and subjected to torture by a soldier and civilian JTF members.
The young teenager tragically ended his life on Friday, June 6, 2024.
Prior to his untimely death, Wisdom, who was preparing for his Junior Secondary School examination, was brutally assaulted on June 1, 2024, by a soldier and civilian JTF members.
Accused of theft by a 16-year-old neighbor named Hope, who allegedly involved her boyfriend, a serving soldier named Segun Samson stationed at Bodi Camp in Port-Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, Wisdom and Hope’s brother were taken by the soldier to the civilian JTF office instead of the police.
At the civilian JTF office, Wisdom was subjected to severe beatings that left him unable to walk.
Following medical treatment, Wisdom returned home, but tragedy struck on Thursday, June 6, 2024, when his lifeless body was discovered hanging from a noose at the rear of their compound in the absence of his parents.
The parents are seeking justice following the tragic death of their son, Wisdom. His father recounted the events that led to the heartbreaking loss.
On the 1st of June, 2024, while in Zaria, he received news that Wisdom was accused of stealing N1000 from their neighbor’s daughter, Miss Hope Danladi.
The Civilian JTF allegedly took matters into their own hands and beat Wisdom severely, leaving him in a coma. Despite this, Hope’s younger brother was unharmed. Further investigation revealed that the younger brother was the actual culprit, as he confessed to the theft and was found with N9000 in his possession.
Hope’s boyfriend, Segun Samson, who claimed to be a soldier, intervened and handed over Wisdom and the younger brother to the Civilian JTF for punishment. Tragically, Wisdom was beaten to the point of being unable to walk and later found dead by suicide.
The grieving father is calling for justice to be served and for those responsible for his son’s death to be held accountable. The Kaduna State Police Command has assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted to ensure that justice is served and the perpetrators are brought to justice.
