Thirteen farmers have been killed by bandits in Niger. Learn more about this tragic attack and the ongoing efforts to address the violence.

On Wednesday, a heartbreaking occurrence took place in Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State as 13 farmers were reportedly murdered by gunmen in the Anguwan Mai-Giro community.

State officials have condemned the attack, denouncing it as an act of violence that is deeply disturbing.

Denouncing the attack as “satanic, insensible, atrocious and callous,” Yakubu Garba – Deputy Governor of Niger State – has issued a statement expressing his dismay over its brutality. He also stated that such barbaric acts against innocent people are utterly appalling and deeply disturbing to him.

Garba offered his sincere sympathy to the mourning families, Anguwan Mai-Giro locals, and all those affected in Shiroro.

He affirmed that despite growing difficulties presented by criminal factions, Niger State’s leadership remains committed to reestablishing harmony and safety throughout its territory.

The deputy governor urged security agencies to stay determined and unshaken in their fight against the threats, assuring them of complete backing from the state government as they continue their campaign to combat criminal acts.

There is a troubling pattern of violence in the area, with this attack being just one example. Last month, bandits targeted a market in Niger State’s Rafi LGA and kidnapped more than 20 women from the Madaka community.
