Tragic Ambush: DPO Among Those Killed in Delta Operation

David Akinyemi

A DPO and several others were killed in a tragic ambush during a kidnap rescue mission in Delta, raising concerns over police safety and security.

A tragic ambush in Delta State during the early morning hours claimed the lives of a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and several others.

A different DPO is reportedly in critical condition at an undisclosed hospital following severe injuries sustained during a rescue operation.

Delta Human Rights Activist Comrade Israel Joe shared the incident on Facebook, emphasizing the risks that security personnel encounter while performing their duties.

The officers were ambushed during their mission, and the situation remains tense as investigations into the incident continue.

He wrote, “It’s a significant setback for the Delta State Command of the Nigeria Police Force.”

The newly appointed DPO of Agbarho, who began his duties only two days ago, was ambushed around 1:00 am near the Agbarho Rail Station. He was joined by CSP Paul, the DPO of Orerokpe, and their team during a kidnap rescue mission when they were attacked.

Gunfire was exchanged, leading to the deaths of the new DPO and several officers. The Orerokpe DPO was quickly taken to a hospital, where he is currently battling for his life.

I’m profoundly saddened by this news. Just yesterday, I discussed the conduct of his officers with the DPO, and he promptly addressed it by warning them against any misconduct during his tenure. This loss is truly heartbreaking because I can personally vouch for these officers’ integrity.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the Delta State Command, as well as to the families and friends of those officers who sacrificed their lives in service. These criminals must not be let off.

Attempts to contact SP Bright Edafe, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, for a comment were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
