Tragedy Strikes as Canoe Accident in Kano Kills 4

A tragic canoe accident in Kano has claimed the lives of four individuals. Discover the details of this heartbreaking event.

Four individuals lost their lives in a heartbreaking occurrence that took place in Kauranmata village situated within the Madobi Local Government Area of Kano State when the canoe they were on overturned.

On Tuesday evening, while returning from Karfi town in Kura LGA after working as local rice processors, the victims and 12 others experienced an accident.

Among the 16 passengers present, only five individuals managed to survive. Amongst them were a nursing mother and the canoe operator.

Unfortunately, it has been stated that despite this small victory, efforts are still being made by rescue personnel to locate six of those who went missing as well as the infant belonging to said nursing mother.

On Wednesday, Jamilu Mustapha Yakasai who is the information officer for Madobi Local Government, verified that Maryam Jibrin, Yusuf Galinja, Kabiru Muhammad and Safiyanu Musa were recovered and buried following Islamic customs.

Alhaji Muhammad Sani Gora, the acting chairman of Madobi Local Council, paid a visit to the Kauranmata community in order to express his condolences towards those families who were impacted by the tragedy.

He stated that the council would ensure all necessary assistance is given to support affected families during this difficult time. “The community can rest assured that we’ll do everything in our power,” he affirmed.

Expressing shock, Salisu Adamu Baure from Kauranmata revealed that the recent fatal accident in the river was unprecedented.

He concluded that overloading must have contributed to this tragedy since besides passengers, two bags of rice and a motorcycle were also loaded onto the canoe.

After the occurrence, Ibrahim Lawan, the ward head of Kauranmata urged that modern speed boats furnished with life jackets should be provided by both local authorities and the government in Kano State to avert comparable calamities from happening again.

The occurrence was affirmed by Saminu Abdullahi, the representative of Kano State Fire Service. He stated that Aminu Garba, who serves as a councillor for Kauranmata Ward, promptly notified them when the mishap occurred.

The search is ongoing to find any other passengers who may be missing and there are optimistic expectations of their safe return.
