On Monday night, a motor accident on the Ore-Ondo highway in Ondo State resulted in the tragic loss of at least 16 lives.
In the Ajue community, a catastrophic collision took place between a Toyota Hiace bus and a truck which left behind an appalling wreckage.
According to eyewitnesses, the impact resulted in a blaze that consumed both automobiles and left 16 passengers unrecognizable due to burns.
Apart from the fatalities, three people suffered severe injuries whereas two individuals emerged unscathed.
According to reports, the bus and truck collided head-on, purportedly because of excessive speed and hazardous passing. The force of the impact was catastrophic, offering little hope for passengers caught in the ensuing blaze.

Responding promptly to the incident, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) swiftly arrived at the site. State Sector Commander Ibitoye Samuel reported that the accident took place at approximately 8 p.m., with rescue efforts persisting until late in night till around 11 p.m.
Initial observations indicate that the tragedy was primarily caused by over-speeding and hazardous passing, but investigations are still ongoing.
Expressing his deep concern over the incident, Commander Ibitoye advised motorists to prioritize defensive driving techniques and exercise caution while on the road.
He stressed the significance of responsible driving as a preventive measure against heartbreaking incidents and emphasized that over-speeding continues to be a major cause of road accidents in Nigeria.
The grave incident is a somber indication of the hazards present on Nigeria’s roads, particularly when there is disregard for traffic regulations.
