Mr. Stephen Irobunda, a 70-year-old man, narrowly avoided being lynched in Ohokobe Ndume, located in Umuahia North LGA of Abia State, after allegedly killing a young man named Mr. Bright Odizuru.
During a confrontation between an elderly man and some youths in the community on Saturday, Odizuru was fatally shot by the suspect.
According to community sources reported by OBASANJONEWS, the victim and other youths were playing football near Irobunda’s house during a local government election, which angered the suspect.
It was reported that the man discharged his firearm into the air to frighten off the youths.
In response, the young people returned to Irobunda’s house to find out why he was attempting to intimidate them with gunfire.
At that moment, the man pulled out his gun once more and shot one of the youths, Bright Odizuru, in the abdomen. This injury ultimately led to his death in a hospital.
The young man’s death enraged the Ohokobe Mbaocha youths, who attacked the suspect and attempted to lynch him until security agents intervened.
Furthermore, the youths attempted to set his house on fire but were pacified by security agents.
When OBASANJONEWS reached out, ASP Maureen Chinaka, the spokesperson for the Abia State Police Command, confirmed the killing.
“The police have received these reports, the crime scene has been examined, and the investigation is currently underway at SCID,” she stated.
