At Lade Village in the Patigi local government area of Kwara state, tragedy struck on Sunday night when a structure collapsed, killing a young woman named Joy Thomas and injuring a mother and her kid.
The Nigerian Tribune learned that the event occurred at approximately 10 p.m. as the victims were having a nap on their veranda and breathing fresh air.
The tragedy had put the neighbourhood and families into a grieving mood, according to Adamu Idris, a community member and rice farmer, and Joshua Seth, the deceased’s neighbour.
He said that because of the heat in the neighbourhood, the dead, Joy, and other victims were resting and unwinding outside on the veranda when the structure collapsed and crashed on them, killing the lady.
In the early hours of Monday, the young woman’s bones were interred.
He said that the sad situation occurred at 10 o’clock on Sunday and that two people who were sleeping atop the fallen building—a woman and her son—were also hurt by the falling debris.
The community’s neighbouring hospital was hurriedly opened to treat the other victims who had suffered serious injuries.
According to people in the neighbourhood, the dead were reportedly in church on Sunday to celebrate Easter with friends and other churchgoers.
Still, there were mourners and sympathisers there, sending their sympathies to the families of the dead over the tragic event.
