Trader imprisoned for transmitting false alert in Plateau
On Friday, a Jos Magistrates’ Court handed down a four-month prison term to a trader named Samuel Jigede, 35, for issuing false notifications after making a purchase.
After Jigede entered a guilty plea, Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos gave him a swift sentence.
Bokkos, however, granted the offender the choice to serve three months in jail or pay a fine and reparation of N15, 000.
The judge declared that the punishment will dissuade future perpetrators.
The matter was reported on July 11 at the “C” Division Police Station in Jos by one Uzochukwu Nwakasi, the complainant, according to Insp. Ibrahim Gokwat, the prosecution’s attorney, who earlier informed the court.
Before being apprehended, the defendant, according to the prosecutor, purchased products and faked notifications to merchants.
The prosecution claims that the offence carries a sentence under the laws of the Plateau State Penal Code.
