Trader allegedly threatened to kidnap his brother’s son; court remands him
A Kano State Sharia Court issued a remand order for 35-year-old businessman Shuaibu Labaran-Baba on Tuesday for allegedly making threats to kidnap his brother’s son.
Labaran-Baba, who resides in Alfindiki Quarters, Mandawari in the Gwale Local Government Area of Kano, was accused by the police of criminal intimidation and malicious harm.
Malam Umar Lawal-Abubakar, the judge who issued the ruling, postponed the case to September 25 for mention.
The complainant, Zahradeen Baba, who is the defendant’s biological brother, reported the incident on September 8 at the Mandawari Police Station in Kano, according to earlier testimony from the prosecution, Insp. Abdullahi Wada.
According to Wada, the complainant claimed that the defendant had threatened to kidnap his son if he didn’t pay the debt.
The prosecution claimed that the offence was a violation of Penal Code Section 158.
The defendant entered a not guilty plea after the charge was read to him.
