The Emir of Gwoza in Borno State, Mohammed Timta, announced on Friday that the notorious Boko Haram commander, Mallam Yathabalwe, who had been causing havoc in Gwoza and the neighboring Mandara Mountain communities, has surrendered to the troops of Operation Hadin Kai.

Reliable sources disclosed that Mallam Yathabalwe, prior to his surrender, was behind a string of violent attacks and killings, including the brutal murder of farmers in Gwoza LGA and its surroundings.

The Emir confirmed the surrender of Mallam Yathabalwe, stating that the wanted commander willingly emerged from hiding on Friday morning, carrying two AK47 rifles and ammunition. He was then handed over to the Nigerian military in Gwoza, with a possibility of being transferred to Maiduguri for further interrogation or action.

Mallam Yathabalwe, known for terrorizing the region for years and obstructing farmers from accessing their lands, has now surrendered, raising hopes for lasting peace in Gwoza and its surroundings.
