The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has ratified Tola Alabere as the acting state chairman of the party during an emergency meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Akure. Alabere, who previously served as the party’s deputy chairman, assumed the role following the suspension of Fatai Adams as chairman.
The decision to appoint Alabere was made by the State Working Committee (SWC) after 11 members of the party suspended Adams, accusing him of engaging in anti-party activities. However, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP stated that the SWC lacked the power to suspend the chairman without seeking recourse from the national body.
The state chapter of the party defended its decision, stating that all levels within the party have the power to discipline members working against the party. The appointment of Alabere was carried out in compliance with the party’s constitution and through a proper process.
The position of the Working Committee to suspend Fatai Adams has been officially approved by the State Executive Working Committee, comprising the chairmen of the local government party and other executive members. In accordance with our constitution, it is imperative to ensure that there is no gap in the party’s administration.
