In order to take items from a private hotel on Odukpani Road in Calabar, suspects have admitted to Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, zone six, Jonathan Towuru, that they pretended to be guests.

Following a petition filed against them, they confessed.

Igwe Abeng Igwe, 25, Denis Godwin, 23, and Ogar Ating, 27, are accused of stealing from one hotel owner, Bassey Okon Etim, in the form of a petition.

The petitioner’s identification of the suspects led to their arrest following an investigation by the Zonal Squad under the direction of ACP Emeka Onyekaba.

The accused admitted to stealing from the petitioner’s Bebobsco hotel, located at No. 62 Old Odukpani Road in Calabar, on June 5, 2023, in a statement issued by Zone Six Police PRO Nelson Okpabi.

The team carried out a search warrant at their residences and found a red Topstar motorcycle with the logo of the Labor Party that was not registered, chassis number LKIPCK16M1008057, engine number 162FMJ51011509, one Senwei petrol generator, two televisions (a Century 32-inch and a Samsung 24-inch), an OX standing fan, a television, a mattress, a GOTV decoder, duvets, pillows, and bedsheets.

The suspects disputed the allegations that they stole goods from hotel guests on February 14, 2023.

Additionally, the suspects directed the investigators to Ekpe David Efioette, a 23-year-old who had acquired the generator and sold it to Becky Osinachi Chukwu, where a search was conducted and the generator was found.

In the statement, it was also mentioned that the police were still quietly investigating the matter and that the suspects will soon be brought before a judge.
