Gov. Nyesom Wike has proclaimed May 3rd a public holiday in order to give residents a chance to give Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president-elect, a hearty greeting before he travels to Rivers State.
In a state broadcast on Tuesday, the governor said that during his two-day official visit to the state on Wednesday and Thursday, Tinubu would officially open the Rumuola/Rumuokwuta Flyover and the incredibly modern Magistrates’ Court Complex in Port Harcourt.
The president-elect would be visiting Rivers for the first time since being elected, according to Wike, who made the announcement during the program.
“To host the President-Elect on this historic visit is a privilege for us, the government, and the people of Rivers State,” he said. As a result, I implore all Rivers residents to turn out in large numbers to welcome His Excellency Senator Bola Tinubu and exhibit the legendary Rivers hospitality as he dedicates these legacy projects to God’s glory and the progress of the state’s development.
Given this, I officially declare May 3, 2023, a public holiday so that the citizens of Rivers State can welcome their new president with a rousing welcome.
Additionally, Wike commanded all stores and commercial establishments in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the State to be closed on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. He also urged all labor unions and security organizations to abide by the closure order.
