The All Progressives Congress, or APC, said that its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, met with Olusegun Obasanjo in August last year to talk about diplomatic matters.
Kehinde Bamgbetan, who is the spokesman for the Tinubu/Shettima PCC, said this on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday.
Remember that in a New Year’s letter to Nigerians, Obasanjo backed Obi and other presidential candidates for the 2023 election, saying that they had a history of being able and doing well.
The former president added that Obi’s age and physical and mental attributes make him a better candidate than other front-runners.
Atiku Abubakar, the candidate for president from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said that the endorsement did not reflect the views of most Nigerians.
On Sunday, Atiku spoke through a representative of his presidential campaign council.
Bola Tinubu, the APC’s opponent, claimed that Obi’s endorsement by Obasanjo was useless.
Tinubu said that Obasanjo didn’t have the political power or goodwill in Nigeria to make sure Obi won the election.
However, the APC insisted that their candidate’s earlier trip to Obasanjo was a sign of goodwill.
“That is what senior statesman diplomacy looks like.” According to Bamgbetan, it’s a typical diplomatic manoeuvre that will demonstrate your lack of interest in conflict.
