No President Muhammadu Buhari appointee with any corruption allegations should be permitted to leave Nigeria, according to a warning from the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG).
The CNG also ruled that Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, should not be permitted to leave the nation until all charges against him have been dropped.
At a press conference on Thursday in Abuja, CNG Spokesman Abdul-Azeez Suleiman announced this.
He continued by saying that anyone with such intentions ought to be treated as an enemy of the state and dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the law of the land.
“We demand that when the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari bows out of office, all key office holders be asked to exonerate themselves of all pending corruption and other allegations against them,” Suleiman added.
The CNG insisted that the CBN Governor in particular be forced to account for his tenure to the incoming administration and that if any study leave had been approved for Emefiele or any other suspected official, it should be revoked in the interest of a peaceful transfer of power, accountability, and good governance.
The CNG noted that plots to thwart the May 29th official inauguration of the new administration of President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and governors at the state level had just recently—exactly on Monday, May 15, 2023—been confirmed by the Nigeria Police Headquarters.
Suleiman stated that CNG demands that anybody or group discovered to have even the slightest connection to the financing, direct execution, or withholding of information on this nefarious and diabolical conspiracy be dealt with correctly as a treasonable offense and enemy of the state and fellow citizens.
The organization has requested the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, to include all ministries, departments, and agencies of government in its inquiry into corrupt activities.
It stated that it opposed the alleged plan to focus the searchlight just on departing state governors and demanded that the EFCC Chairman conduct a comprehensive investigation by widening the beam to include the Presidency, Federal Government ministries, parastatals, and the departing administration’s cabinet members.
He said, “The group demanded a thorough investigation into the allegations against the EFCC itself as well as the crippling level of debt accumulated for the nation by the outgoing administration.”
