On Monday, the Presidency said that Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) being elected president demonstrated that Nigerians had rejected sectarian politics and religious intolerance.
In a statement, the presidential election on February 25 was hailed as a significant advance over other elections held in Nigeria, according to presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu.
No one had challenged the election’s outcome, he said, with the exception of the candidates who “fallen short,” and he added that Tinubu had won the largest and most heated presidential contest in Nigerian history.
He mentioned that the British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, the US State Department, and other members of ECOWAS and the African Union had congratulated Tinubu.
The vote advanced and strengthened democracy in Nigeria, he added, despite the fact that there were certain technical issues and delays that we can learn from, as is the case in every election worldwide. The Electoral Act of 2022 was given greater integrity.
The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System eliminated duplicate, unauthorised, or ghost votes to prevent fraud. Notwithstanding its flaws, the election was nonetheless an improvement above earlier results because of the government’s actions. We shouldn’t ignore that accomplishment. The Electoral Commission must now guarantee collation is transparent.
