The Presidency fires back at Bishop Kukah’s comments, asserting that Tinubu signed the 2023 election peace accords. Get the full details on their exchange.

In response to the comments made by Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, it has been clarified by the Presidency that President Bola Tinubu signed both peace accords prior to the 2023 presidential election.

At the Edo Election Townhall meeting in Benin, Kukah – Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto – asserted that Tinubu had not endorsed the peace accord.

Refuting the claim, Bayo Onanuga – the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy – made a statement via his verified X account (formerly Twitter).

Tinubu signed the two accords that aimed to guarantee peaceful and trustworthy elections, as clarified by Onanuga.

On September 29, 2022, Vice President Kashim Shettima signed the initial agreement on behalf of Tinubu to ensure a fair and trustworthy election, as divulged by Onanuga.

He went on to explain that Tinubu personally signed the second agreement, which aimed to guarantee candidates’ acceptance of election results, on February 23rd, 2023.

The clarification serves to strengthen the President’s dedication to maintaining peaceful democratic proceedings throughout the 2023 election period.
