Tinubu would commission NASS projects in December – Akpabio
President Bola Tinubu would commission N30 billion worth of work already underway at the National Assembly complex in December, according to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
During an audience with the chairman and members of the NASC governing board over the weekend, Akpabio disclosed the commissioning of the projects being carried out within the National Assembly compound.
“The entire National Assembly complex is now like a construction site due to ongoing general renovation work and new projects that, when completed, would be commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in December this year,” he said.
Aside from basic renovations, the permanent office building of the National Assembly Service Commission and a very appropriate library complex are being built.”
Though Akpabio did not specify the amount of money released to contractors handling the project, the 9th National Assembly appropriated N30 billion to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for project execution, of which only N9 billion had been released as of March this year.
In response to NASC chairman Ahmed Kadi Amshi’s plea for fast documentation of legislative assistants of parliamentarians, the Senate President assured him that the September deadline would be met.
In his address, Amshi informed the Senate President and other senior officials of the Red Chamber that the deadline for the documentation of the 469 federal parliamentarians’ assistants has been set for the end of September this year.
He stated that the paperwork of legislative assistants is required for the payment of their emoluments.
“Your Excellency, Mr President of the Senate, please assist us in informing the serving senators, and by extension, the honourable members of the 10th National Assembly, to forward the names of their appointed legislative aides to us for required documentation and monthly salary payments.”
“The commission has opened relevant files for this purpose and set September as the deadline,” NASC chairman stated.
He also stated that, over the last three years, the commission under his direction has promoted a total of 2,775 employees, converted around 447 others from one cadre to another, and established a code of ethics for the ethical conduct of all employees at all times.
