Tinubu will meet with elected opposition lawmakers in the 10th assembly
While the President will meet with the newly-elected Senators at 3:00 pm, his meeting with the newly-elected House of Representatives is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
On Monday, President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to meet with newly-elected opposition National Assembly lawmakers, barring any last-minute changes.
According to Channels Television, the meeting has been scheduled for the State House approximately one week before the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly.
Sunday, Channels Television obtained a copy of an invitation letter dated 2 June and signed by the Permanent Secretary at the State House, Tijjani Umar, containing this information.
While the President will meet with the newly-elected Senators at 3:00 pm, his meeting with the newly-elected House of Representatives is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
Umar requested that the incoming legislators submit their names for security clearance.
The notice stated, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will hold a meeting with members of the opposition Senators-elect and opposition House of Representatives members-elect on Monday, June 5, 2023 at 15:00 hours and 1700 hours respectively at the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa, Abuja.”
“In this regard, you are respectfully requested to notify all relevant attendees and submit their list in advance for security certification. Please accept the utmost regard of the President.”
However, the meeting’s specifics are unclear. It may be related to the procedure that will determine the forthcoming National Assembly’s presiding officers.
Earlier, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) nominated Godswill Akpabio, the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, as Senate President and Barau Jibrin, the senator representing Kano North, as his deputy.
The party selected Tajudeen Abbas, a lawmaker from Kaduna, as Speaker of the House and Benjamin Kalu, a lawmaker from Imo, as his deputy.
