Tinubu, Wike, Fubara, and Ogoni Leaders Hold Closed-Door Meeting

President Tinubu, Nyesom Wike, Governor Fubara, and Ogoni leaders have convened in a high-level closed-door meeting to discuss pressing issues affecting Rivers State.

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), held a private meeting with Ogoni leaders led by Governor Siminalayi Fubara from Rivers State.

The meeting was also attended by Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President; Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser; Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL); Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation; along with other ministers and aides.

The meeting took place following a demand from a coalition of civil society organizations for the Federal Government to allocate $1 trillion towards cleaning up the Niger Delta and compensating for lost livelihoods. This request was made prior to resuming crude oil production in Ogoniland.

The meeting took place during the ongoing feud between Fubara and Wike, who were formerly political allies. Wike recently served as governor of the oil-rich South-South state.
