On Saturday, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Ime-Obi proclaimed that nothing on earth could prevent Bola Tinubu from being sworn in as president-elect on May 29.
Ohanaeze’s highest decision-making body, Ime-Obi, promised to support Tinubu as much as possible in order to ensure the success of his government.
As a result of Tinubu’s refusal to include Igbos in his transition committee, a faction of the Ohanaeze said that it would not recognize Tinubu as the organization’s new president.
The Ohanaeze underlined that it accepts Tinubu as the President-elect of Nigeria and would assist him following his inauguration through Secretary-General Okechukwu Isiguzoro.
“Some people are making an unofficial statement that they don’t recognize Tinubu as the president-elect, but let me make it categorically clear that those statements are coming from unpatriotic elements that have been suspended from the Ohanaeze Ndigbo,” Isiguzoro said in a conversation with Obasanjonews24.
“Ohanaeze will take full part in the President-elect’s inauguration. Anyone who claims that the Ohanaeze Ndigbo would not accept a man who was declared the winner of the 2023 presidential election is not being patriotic.
“Until a court of competent jurisdiction rules differently, Ndigbo will continue to give the president-elect and vice president-elect, Shettima, our entire support.
“We won’t allow those who turned Ndigbo against Buhari in 2015 to push us into another precarious scenario where it will be falsely implied that we Igbos are opposed to or won’t recognize the President-elect, which is not Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s attitude.
“Ndigbo are economically minded and progressive, and they would continue to support any central administration.
The attempts to pit Ndigbo against Tinubu will fail because we are attending the inauguration in Eagles Square and nothing on earth could prevent the President-elect from taking the oath of office.
“Tinubu shouldn’t pay attention to those who aren’t speaking on behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo; we’ll keep supporting him, give him our full backing, and make sure his government is successful.
The Ime-Obi Ohanaeze has never given anyone permission to criticize the President-elect. Ime-Obi has fully endorsed and would vote for whoever was elected president.
Ohanaeze would not permit anyone to make the untrue claim that it does not recognize Tinubu and does not consider the president-elect to be an opponent.
