President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed that the Federal Government will explore avenues to support states and private sector entities in paying the recently sanctioned N70,000 national minimum wage.

On Thursday, a statement was released by Bayo Onanuga, in his role as the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu for Information and Strategy.

After a meeting with leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, Tinubu made an announcement via OBASANJONEWS24 that there will be a N70,000 minimum wage.

Tinubu promised to reassess the nation’s minimum wage every three years instead of five.

The President declared that he would utilize his discretionary authority to address the issue of unpaid salaries for four months by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), as indicated in the statement.

Nigerian workers are set to receive a minimum wage of N70,000 as approved by President Bola Tinubu. Additionally, he has pledged to conduct regular reviews every three years on the national minimum wage legislation.

President Tinubu pledged to explore means of supporting the private sector and sub-national entities in meeting the minimum salary requirement.

According to the statement, President Tinubu was praised by Labour leaders for his kind gesture while also committing to utilize his discretionary powers in order to fulfill the requests of university unions who have been awaiting payment of salaries for a period of four months.

Remember that a stalemate has been present between the Federal Government and laborers regarding an updated minimum wage rate.

Organized labor proposed a minimum wage of N250,000 while the Federal Government insisted on N62,000.
