Alhaja Sinatu Ojikutu, a former deputy governor of Lagos State, alerted authorities on Wednesday that Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s election had put her life in danger.
Prior to the 2023 general election, Sinatu Ojikutu, the first female deputy governor in the nation to be democratically elected, pledged to leave the country if the former governor of Lagos won.
Speaking with reporters yesterday at her home in Ikoyi, Lagos, the former deputy governor claimed that Tinubu’s election victory on February 25 had made her life less safe.
She asserted that more than 20 years ago, when she rejected his bid for governor, her relationship with former state governor Tinubu became strained.
She claimed that an attempt by the former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, to make peace between her and Tinubu had failed in the past.
In her statement, Sinatu Aderoju Ojikutu stated: “I came out before the presidential election to announce that if Tinubu won, I, Sinatu Aderoju Ojikutu, would resign the citizenship of Nigeria and I have my reasons.
“Before the elections, I had the thought that Tinubu was enquiring as to my survival. I believe that when someone conveyed my problem to him, he said, “Is she still around?” Why does that matter?
“What is he saying? I am, in fact, healthy and alive. Do they intend for me to die? Why should anyone be concerned about my wellbeing?
Am I secure? Additionally, there are a lot of people that fall into that group who are not safe.
Speaking about her decision to leave the nation, she said that when Tinubu won, she received calls from people assuring her that “he would not harm me but I know this man and I have known him for over 20 years. I am aware of his actions against me specifically.
